Students will do the following in my class today: Check Vocabulary words and sentences. 1) betrayal   N an act of disloyalty or treachery     2) devastate V to destroy or overwhelm     3) discordant Adj having a disagreeable or clashing sound; not in harmony     4) fiasco N a complete failure     5) indignity N a loss of dignity or honor; a source of such loss     6) lament V to express grief or deep regret     7) prodigy N a young person who is exceptionally talented or intelligent     8) ream N A unit used to measure quantities of paper, usually equal to 500 sheets; hence, a large amount of something     9) reproach N blame; criticism     10) reverie N a daydream     Students then will get into their lit circle groups and read Cask of The Amontillado p.207 Each group will have an Illustrator, Questioner, a Vocab Finder, and a Summarizer.

Students will do the following in my class today: 5 good minutes of study Turn in/collect vocabulary reviews Take Vocabulary Quiz on the scan tron (don't write on the tests) Answer this question by using your own paper, a writing utensil, and your book. Explain how "Respect Others for Who They Are" is the theme of the story by using factual evidence from the story. (Two Kinds p.88) ALL STUDENTS MUST HAVE THEIR TWO KINDS QUIZ FROM THURSDAY COMPLETED BY THE END OF CLASS TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Students will do the following in my class today: Read Two Kinds p.88 in the text Take a 20 point quiz on the story to check for comprehension Answer question #6 EXTENDED INTERPRETATIONS  on page 100 in their textbooks (Do this on your own piece of paper) Complete the vocabulary review and study quizlet.com Marigolds Vocab words for quiz tomorrow

Students will do the following in class today: Vocab- Students will copy down the words and will be responsible for looking up the definitions and the parts of speech.  They also will use each word in a sentence of their creation.  1) bravado-   2) compassion- 3) degradation- 4) futile- 5) impotent- 6) impoverished- 7) perverse- 8) poignantly- 9) squalor- 10) stoicism- Warm up question-Students will write on the following prompt, "In The Sniper, what is the situational irony that is in the story?  Be sure to identify the situational irony and then tell me why this incident fits the definition of situational irony.   Discuss what we are looking or in this question and how to get it right. Today kids will review their vocabulary words Also, we will be finishing up the socrative.com Marigolds test and using the item analysis to talk about the story.  We will focus on setting and how it helps create the mood for the story.

We will do the following in class today: Discuss irony by looking at ALANIS MORISSETTE's "IRONIC" Take one of the examples and explain how it may be perceived as irony. Review Vocabulary 4 Begin Marigolds p.74 and focus on how the setting influences the plot.  Complete Voc 4 Crosswords for HW.

Today in English we will do the  following: Go to Socrative.com and take a short 3 question quiz and then discuss the three types of irony.  We will look at an item analysis of each question and then look at exaplanations as to why each answer is correct or incorrect.  The questions are: 1) Describe an example of dramatic irony from a movie that you watched or a story you are familiar with. Explain how this is dramatic irony. 2) Which of the following is an example of verbal irony? A. Telling a lunch lady that you are hungry. B. Telling the shortest person in school they are pretty tall. C. A "fight childhood obesity ad" with a McDonald's sign next to it advertising kids meals. D. Calling a peaceful room's noise a "loud silence. " 3) situational irony is   A. A comparison between two unlike objects using the words like or as. B.When something opposite of what was expected happens. C.When the audience knows something that not everyone in the story knows. D.A comparison between two unlike things not using like or as. E. When someone says something but means the opposite. Sarcasm is an example.
